4 Fun Carpet Trends To Watch In 2022 And Beyond

Carpet does not have to be just boring, wall-to-wall beige plush. There are plenty of other options and they are getting noticed in 2022. If you are looking to try something new and on-trend, consider the following carpet flooring options.

1. Patterns

Choosing a pattern is a bold decision, but one many more homeowners are taking. Like in your wardrobes, adding patterns can add life to neutral color options. A navy suit looks fine with a white button-down shirt but pops with a fun print. Your living room is the same. A solid carpet in a neutral color looks fine with a beige sofa, but a tartan plaid would be amazing. Carpet comes in an array of patterns, from florals and plaids to stripes and even contemporary swirls.

2. Frieze

Texture is always important in design. If you are up for something different in 2022, you can add it to your home with carpet. Frieze carpeting, sometimes called twist carpet or California shag, is a modern twist on the shag carpet of the 1960s and 70s. Frieze is made with longer strands that are twisted during the manufacturing process to create its unique look. Caring for twisted and longer strand carpet does take a little extra effort, however. For example, it's wise to turn off the beater bar when cleaning loop pile carpets like this. Beater bars can flatten, fray, or even damage the longer strands of carpet fiber.

3. Glow-in-the-Dark

Basements are no longer dark spaces reserved for washing machines and holiday storage. Homeowners everywhere are reclaiming their basements for use as playrooms, gaming spaces. and even home theaters. Decor for basements leans a little more fun, and carpet flooring is no exception. A popular choice is glow-in-the-dark carpeting, which is often seen in bowling alleys, arcades, and nightclubs and adds an element of surprise or whimsy.

4. Animal prints

While animal prints may seem over-the-top for many people, it is a classic design element that has been around since the 1930s. Installing leopard carpet in a den, an antelope runner on the stairs, or even a pink zebra carpet in a child's bedroom are all on-trend for 2022. The increasing popularity of animal prints, especially in bold choices, like carpet, is seen as a part of the maximalism movement, which embraces bold colors, patterns, and large collections of art and objets d'art.

Carpet does not have to be boring. In fact, with all the colors, patterns, and prints available on the market today, every homeowner can showcase their own, individual personality in their carpet selection.
